Located downtown Salem along Riverfront Park, Gilbert House Children Museum is an interactive learning space that sparks curiosity and promotes learning through creative play. This nonprofit 501(c)3 museum features 16 hands-on exhibits, a 20,000 ft2 Outdoor Discovery Area, field trips, STEM Workshops, membership opportunities, summer camps and educational programs in the sciences, arts and humanities. Founded in 1989, Gilbert House Children Museum provides fun and challenging educational experiences that ignite children’s natural curiosity. Embraced by the historic buildings of Riverfront Park, this children’s museum is an exciting place to visit with the kids in your life.

The Gilbert House Museum is located in three historic houses and a 20,000 square foot outdoor discovery center nestled within Salem’s Riverfront Park. Each house has a special theme with multiple rooms filled with hands-on exhibits and activities that are educational and entertaining.

Erector Set Tower: A 52 feet tall erector set tower, the largest in the world, is a must-see attraction at this children’s museum named for Salem native and inventor A. C. Gilbert, who invented the Erector Set and other educational toys.

Farm to Table: A room that features an array of Oregon farmers’ wares like milking cows, collecting eggs and tending vegetables, is a fun and educational way for kids to learn about historical, local farms while having fun at the same time. A vet clinic where they can practice using X-rays, weigh puppies and even take care of their pets is also included in the exhibits.

Back to Play: This one-of-a-kind kids’ playtime is limited to 40 visitors during two-hour blocks of time, Tuesday through Saturday at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Reservations can be made in advance by visiting the museum’s website. General admission tickets are $10 each; members are free.
